SS490 Steel Description
SS490 steel is a high-strength structural carbon steel defined under the JIS G3101 standard, commonly used in construction, machinery manufacturing, and structural engineering. With a minimum yield strength of 285 MPa and tensile strength between 490–610 MPa, it provides better mechanical performance than SS400, making it suitable for more demanding load-bearing applications.
SS490 offers excellent weldability, toughness, and formability, allowing for flexible fabrication processes such as cutting, bending, and welding. It is widely used in bridges, steel frames, industrial equipment, and heavy machinery components.

SS490 Applications
SS490 carbon steel plates are used for structural and heavy-duty engineering projects requiring both strength and durability. Typical applications include:
-
Bridges and high-rise buildings
-
Heavy machinery frames and cranes
-
Shipbuilding and offshore structures
-
Steel fabrication and construction equipment
-
Industrial platforms and support beams
With its high mechanical strength, good weldability, and versatile processing properties, SS490 is one of the most commonly used high-strength steels in Asia’s construction and industrial manufacturing sectors.
